Welcome to Modest House Foundation, a modern approach to housing people in transition. We're dedicated to providing housing and fostering a sense of community for young adults aging out of the foster care system, people in recovery, survivors of human trafficking and domestic abuse, individuals that have been justice involved, veterans and senior citizens. At our core, we believe in the power of connection and collaboration.
Our mission is to create not just a place to live, but a supportive and inclusive community within the house and the neighborhood. We proudly collaborate with various partners who contribute to the well-being of our residents, assisting them in different aspects of their journey. YOUTH + TRANSITIONING FROM FOSTER CARE
Despite the remarkable abilities and promise exhibited by these young individuals, the absence of adequate support can give rise to unfavorable results. Statistical evidence indicates that young people who transition out of foster care confront an increased vulnerability to homelessness, demonstrate diminished likelihood of achieving educational milestones, and face elevated risks of falling victim to human trafficking and incarceration.

81% experience food insecurity
76% experience housing insecurity
38% experienced homelessness in the last 12 months

VETERANS & ELDERLY
The rise in homelessness among older individuals which includes veterans is primarily attributed to poverty and the diminishing accessibility of cost-effective housing within specific sections of the aging population. Across the country, there is an evident imbalance, with a minimum of 9 seniors waiting for each currently occupied unit of affordable housing designed for the elderly. Even though significant efforts have been directed towards providing housing assistance to the elderly, households led by older individuals with very low incomes still face an alarming one-in-three likelihood of experiencing severe housing difficulties.
Our focus is on catering to the housing requirements of seniors and veterans by offering housing options coupled with services aimed at enhancing and preserving the well-being of older adults, encompassing their individual financial growth, health, and involvement within the community.

SURVIVORS & SOBER LIVING
Adolescents and young adults grappling with homelessness can also be survivors of sex or labor trafficking, found not only in urban centers but also in suburban areas, rural communities, and American Indian Reservations across the nation. Several studies have indicated that trafficking rates among this demographic, who are experiencing homelessness, vary from 19% to 40%. It's important to note that certain youth facing homelessness possess an even higher vulnerability to trafficking than these statistics suggest.
Insights gained from interviews with young individuals highlight several recurring themes and pathways:
- The absence of fundamental necessities, such as lacking a secure place to sleep at night, frequently contributes to their exposure to trafficking situations.
- Early exposure to adversity, like homelessness and exploitation, often commences well before reaching the age of 18.
- LGBTQ+ youth are particularly at risk, encountering trafficking at elevated rates compared to their peers facing homelessness.
- Youth who have previously been in foster care also encounter trafficking at elevated rates within the homeless population.
